The Framery & Art Studio has been part of the Lawrenceburg community for more than 45 years, but its story began with one woman, a love of art, and a talent for framing the things people treasure.

Mary Helen Crook brought years of custom framing experience with her from Newport Beach, California, and Mariemont, Ohio, when she settled in Lawrenceburg. She began framing from her home and, over the years, built The Framery into a frame shop, an art studio, and a creative gathering place.

​

Mary Helen had an artist's eye and a commitment to doing things well. Generations of customers trusted her with the things that mattered to them: original artwork and family photographs, military memorabilia and diplomas, wedding keepsakes, children's art, jerseys, heirlooms, and sometimes wonderfully unusual objects that simply deserved to be saved.

Along the way, The Framery became about making art, too.

​

The art studio grew into a place where children could discover that they were artists, adults could try something they had never done before, friends could spend an evening creating together, and families could make something they would remember long after the paint had dried.

​

In 2025, The Framery began its next chapter under new ownership. Many of our employees grew up making art here. So, we knew we weren't simply taking over a business. We were becoming caretakers of something that had been built over decades and mattered to this community.

​

Today, you'll still find expert custom framing at the heart of what we do. You'll also find pottery waiting to be painted, fused glass headed for the kiln, children's artwork drying on tables, classes and camps, birthday parties, local art, workshops, and sometimes an idea we haven't tried before.

​

We believe art doesn't have to be intimidating.

​

You don't have to be an artist to make something.

​

You don't have to know what kind of frame you need before you walk through the door.

​

And you certainly don't need a special occasion to stop in.

​

Bring us the photograph that's been sitting in a drawer for twenty years, grandpa's military medals, your child's masterpiece, the concert poster you can't bear to roll back up, the jersey you've been meaning to frame, or the odd family treasure you're not even sure can be framed.

We'll figure it out together.

Or paint pottery with your kids. Take a class with a friend. Try fused glass. Have a birthday party. Learn something you've always wanted to learn. Make something terrible and laugh about it. Make something wonderful and surprise yourself.

 

Because after more than four decades, we still believe the same basic thing: The things we make, the things we save, and the people we make them with matter.
